Striving only for the best.
We don’t just build cars — we engineer speed, precision, and value. Meet the fastest, lightest, and most cost-effective Formula SAE machine in the Caribbean.
About Us
#ComoCoco
Formula SAE  is a global platform where young professionals accelerate their careers by designing, building, acquiring data, testing, and marketing an open-wheel race car, where innovative technology powers the heart of competition. At the  University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), we represent the collegiate chapter of the  Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), competing biennially at  Formula SAE EV Michigan  against over  80 universities worldwide. This diverse, high-stakes event fosters innovation, sharpens problem-solving skills, and sparks creativity, delivering unmatched professional growth to every team member.

We are  Colegio Racing Engineering (CRE) — a multidisciplinary team of over 50 students united to build the fastest, lightest, and most cost-effective Formula SAE EV race car from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. For over 30 years, we have competed in internal combustion, but today, we’re leading a historic transition: our first fully electric Formula SAE car. This leap toward sustainability and advanced technology marks a new era for our team, aligning with global trends in electric mobility and showcasing Puerto Rican engineering on an international stage.

Our mission is made possible by sponsors who believe in shaping the next generation of engineers and leaders, providing essential support for event registration, materials, manufacturing, and travel, powering not only our race car but also the future of engineering in the Caribbean.

What We Do
Road to Michigan 2026
Here at Colegio Racing Engineering, we let our passion and work do the talking. The team's work involves a wide range of activities, including  mechanical and electrical research and designing the car, sourcing materials and components,  building,  testing, and data-acquiring prototypes, and making modifications to  improve  performance. We are extremely motivated to reach and exceed all our goals, including competing in the Formula SAE EV Michigan event in June 2026.

Our Heritage
Since 1991, the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus has participated in Formula SAE Competitions under the banner of Colegio Racing Engineering.  Colegio Racing Engineering is the forerunner in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, being the only one from the region to compete in Formula SAE until 2004. Even though competition for the local reign arrived, we were already widely recognized as being most innovative in cost-effective construction and problem-solving processes. In May 2017, we marked the second-highest score in the history of the UPRM, positioning ourselves as the best team in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. In 2021, we were able to secure a 23 overall position with CC-3.  We're excited to see what our future brings with CC-EV0, our first fully transitioned electric car.
Our Goal
We aim to showcase our technical expertise, engineering innovation, and ability to manage a complex project while working seamlessly as a team. With the debut of our  first fully electric Formula SAE race car, we are embracing cutting-edge technology and sustainable performance to redefine what’s possible for our team.
Our goal is to compete at  Formula SAE EV Michigan in June 2026, facing one of the most challenging and prestigious fields in collegiate motorsport. With over 80 universities from around the world in attendance, we are determined to leverage our electrical engineering capabilities and teamwork to secure a place among the top 20 teams.

"Scientists investigate that which already is; Engineers create that which has never been."

“Como Coco”  is a phrase that defines our team.
While the direct translation is “like a coconut,” our unofficial meaning reflects  resilience, strength, and the ability to thrive under pressure — all while performing at our absolute best.
It’s a reminder that no matter the challenges, we remain unshaken and as good as ever.
